Our vision of "Explore Your Limits" encompasses our belief that we want our students to have growth mindset and to learn to improve in whatever they may do. We want our boys and girls to continually strive for excellence and to push themselves to get better by exploring their limits.

Our learner values , shows some of the skills and attributes that we want our students to develop whilst they are at Hautapu School. These are shown below.

Our School Values and Learner

Above is a visual that unpacks the vision statement of "Explore your limits" and how it can be used to describe the learning that takes place at Hautapu School.

This visual is based on the work of James Nottingham and his "Learning Pit". The "Learning Pit" is an analogy that describes the stages that people go through when they learn new things. You have to go down into a deep place of uncertainty before you come back out and gain new knowledge o understanding. It represents our school and the values that we have created as a community. In   the first instance, you have to challenge yourself to want to learn and you have to show courage to enter the pit. When in the pit you explore all possibilities and utilise the community around you to help you to begin your ascent out of the pit. Once you have done that you show you have grown   and you leave the pit higher than when you entered it.
This is significant as it represents the growth you have made as an individual.
This visual also shows our rural setting and our spiritual mountain/maunga, Maungatautari in the  background, making it unique to our school.
